Presidential Candidates Questionnaire

There is a significant role at the federal level in early childhood education – Head Start, Child Care & Development Block Grant, No Child Left Behind, special education Part C and preschool grants, and other programs and funding streams that impact access to and the quality of early childhood education for children from birth through age eight.

NAEYC does not endorse or oppose candidates for any public office at any level.  NAEYC’s public policy advocacy positions are driven by the association’s position statements, and research and evidence on high quality early childhood development and education for young children.

All candidates for President of the United States, Republican and Democratic, were given the same questionnaire for response.  We asked each candidate to limit the response to each question by 100 words. As a 501(c)(3) organization, we are allowed to submit questions to candidates and to publish the candidates’ responses without change.

Below are the responses that we have received as of the deadline provided to them. Their responses are provided in last name alphabetical order.  Click on the name to see that candidate’s response to the NAEYC questionnaire.  Any subsequent responses will be posted when they are received.

The websites for all Democratic and Republican candidates are listed below in alphabetical order:

Joseph Biden Dennis Kucinich
Hillary Clinton John McCain
Christopher Dodd Barack Obama
John Edwards Ron Paul
Mike Gravel Bill Richardson
Rudy Guiliani Mitt Romney
Mike Huckabee Fred Thompson
Duncan Hunter

Any comments or questions should be submitted directly to the candidates.
